Praise Over Politics

How great our nation’s political system has become!
The government of the people, by the people, for the people has certainly
Been swept aside in favor of government of the people, by individuals who have no
Clue regarding the people, for the benefit of securing or retaining power.

The pursuit of a more perfect union is hampered by those who seek to prevent any
Move toward that union if that move did not originate with them or their party, or
That move cannot be evangelized for securing or retaining power.

This great political system has been brought to us by our abdication
Of our right to critical thinking. We have made our lives simple by accepting
The world as it is presented to us.

We fear what the news says we should fear, and whom we should fear.
We envy what the marketers tell us we need to finally be happy.
We value what the prevailing opinion informs us is valuable. They only form their opinion
By listening to others’ opinions.

We elect those who agree with our bias and prejudice, whose sound bites place blame for our
Problems on those who are not us.
We have a representative republic that does not represent us as we should be, but as someone else
Tells us we are.

It would be worthy of praise, if we earned it.
